After three years of waiting, two single releases, and one long delay, Sam Smith‘s third album has a name and release date.

Smith’s newest project was initially titled To Die For and was scheduled for release in June, but the coronavirus pandemic and some creative rethinking put the record on hold. Last week, Smith finally christened the revised project Love Goes and confirmed an October 30 release date.

In an Instagram post announcing details, Smith said, “This album marks a time of experimentation and self-discovery in my life.”

They went on to hint that some more playful and upbeat tracks may be on the album. We all love an excellent sorrowful, Sam Smith ballad. But hearing their take on a fun and fresh pop track might be just what we need in 2020.

“I tried not to take myself too seriously when writing a few of these songs and I hope they make you smile, because they made and make me smile,” they wrote in the letter posted to Instagram.

Along with the announcement, Smith dropped the second official single from the album. “Diamonds” puts a funky spin on betrayal and resilience. The thump of the bass punctuates Smith’s uncharacteristically punchy vocals as they promise, “You’re never gonna hear my heart break.”

“Diamonds” follows up the first single from Love Goes, “Oasis.” Several of Smith’s other recent releases, “Dancing with a Stranger (feat. Normani)” and “I’m Ready (feat. Demi Lovato)” will be included on the album as bonus tracks.”

Love Goes is available on October 3.
