Selena Gomez hasn’t released an album since Revival in 2015. However, she just released a new single titled “Wolves,” which is also a collaboration with electronic dance music producer Marshmello, who has worked with the likes of Noah Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

The song has a certain sweetness and sexiness to it that combines a sense of urgency that’s felt in the chorus. It creates a completeness that’s compared to when you find someone you really connect with physically and sexually (“Your fingertips trace my skin/To places I have never been“).

Gomez’s voice really captures the feeling of longing and satisfaction with the lyrics:
I’ve been running through the jungle
I’ve been running with the wolves
To get to you, to get to you
I’ve been down the darkest alleys
Saw the dark side of the moon
To get to you, to get to you

As for the music video, which happened to be filmed with an iPhone, there’s a great sense of intimacy and connection with the viewer. Selena FaceTimes with Marshmello as she sings the track and takes the smartphone with her throughout her home. Her playful stare into the camera is enough to make the viewer feel part of her life as she parades around her house in a skimpy robe with her freshly showered skin and hair.

The sheer fact that the music video, directed by Harry McNally, opens with her in bed speaks to the themes of intimacy featured in the new single.

Wolves” is out now on Spotify and YouTube.
