SOCCER MOMMY
Her Latest Releases + Upcoming Fourth Album

Soccer Mommy is only 22 years old, but already has a proven track record of enchanting the platform-wearing thrift shop hipsters crew –– no small feat in the music world.
Sophie Allison was born in Switzerland but grew up in Nashville, one of the hearts of the music industry. She first picked up a guitar at age 6, and posted her first home recorded music online shortly after graduating high school. After giving her first live performance during college and scoring a record deal with the rock and blues label Fat Possum, she dropped out of school to pursue her music career full-time.
Allison released her debut album as Soccer Mommy in 2016, followed by her second record in 2017 and her third in 2018. Her soft indie vibe has proven to be adaptable to a number of other artists’ touring styles, leading her to open for acts like Paramore, Kacey Musgraves, Vampire Weekend and Phoebe Bridgers.
The soothing soft-rock sound that permeates all of Allison’s music is calming and undeniably enticing –– the kind of silky smooth tracks you can listen to in sequence for hours with tiring of it. Most of it is guitar driven, but the vocal and instrumental parts balance so one shines no brighter than the other. Lyrically, Allison often wistfully bemoans the trials and tribulations of dating as a young adult –– a universally identifiable struggle.
Soccer Mommy’s recently released a few singles, leading up to the release of a new album, Color Theory. “yellow is the color of her eyes” is standard soft indie with a steady beat under the sweet lilt of Allison’s voice, singing melancholy, somewhat morbid lyrics. The second single released, titled “lucy” has a happier tone, but is delightfully disjointed, as the darkness of its lyrics contrasts with Allison’s sing-songy voice. In both tracks, fuzzy feedback-filled guitar diversifies and jumbles the otherwise melodically neat songs, giving them a delightful multidimensional quality that sounds like an organized state of sonic chaos.
Finally, “circle the drain” was released just this week. It differs from the other Color Theory tracks released so far, with a hint of folk in its sound and dreamy lyrics.
Color Theory is scheduled to be released Feb. 28 through Loma Vista Records.
