Kim Gordon has been a groundbreaking woman in alt-rock for decades. She formed the phenomenal group Sonic Youth in the early 80’s, helping to develop another standout genre alongside hair bands and upbeat pop in the decade’s musical landscape.

Sonic Youth was prolific for nearly 30 years, releasing 16 studio albums, the last of them dropping in 2009. Since then, Gordon’s taken on a number of other projects, forming a few separate and short-lived duos and dabbling in record producing. Three years ago, she finally dropped her first solo single, “Murdered Out,” playing it off as something that simply came about on its own.

Then, nearly two months ago, the Gordon finally announced the inevitable: her first solo album. No Home Record is being produced by Justin Raisen, a collaborate with some edgy ladies currently turning heads in pop like Charli XCX and Sky Ferreira. But there are no signs showing Gordon’s work will be anything of the pop variety.

The three singles released from No Home Record so far include “Murdered Out,“Sketch Artist” and the latest release “Air BnB.” All have a distinct early alt-rock feel, with harsh and heavy guitar under Gordon’s husky croon. “Sketch Artist” gives us hints of some experimentation with sound and style, piquing curiosity for what else is to come on the album.

No Home Record is due out October 11.
