Sylvan Esso Falls In Love

The Electropop Duo Gets Ready For The Summer

North Carolina-based Sylvan Esso released their sophomore album What Now in 2017, but the electropop duo is still making waves in 2018 with a summer tour kicking off in May. Their last single “Die Young” is still a monster hit, as it peaked at #4 on the US Top Rock Albums.

The music video is a playful journey, as it features lead singer Amelia Meath stealing a police car and going on a joyride throughout the California desert. It speaks to the wild and freeing feeling of falling in love, which Sylvan Esso explained in an interview with NPR.

“I wanted to write a love song,” said Meath. “There are so many of them that I tend to avoid directly writing about love. Poor love — its been compared to everything! But I wanted to get in the game, because I am in love and wanted to see if I could do it. So of course I write this bummer of a happy pop-dirge.”

The song itself is a firecracker! It’s fun and airy without being overly produced and saccharine. “Die Young” really does speak to the sense of euphoria and recklessness you have before and after you fall in love and everything in your world just changes, especially with lyrics like,

“I had it all planned out before you met me
Was gonna leave early and so swiftly
Maybe in a fire or crash off a ravine
People would weep, “How tragic, so early”

What Now is out now and available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.

Sylvan Esso will be on tour throughout Europe in May, before performing at the Governors Ball Music Festival 2018 in New York City and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival 2018 in Tennessee in June. The duo will then tour across the United States in July.
