SZA, SO SULTRY
She Hits Different, a R&B Jam and Delivers

It’s not an exaggeration to say that SZA changed lives with her debut album Ctrl. Now, three years later, she’s back with a new single. Our hopes for her sophomore record are officially renewed.
On September 4, SZA surprised us with a brand new track called “Hit Different.” The ode to a love gone wrong features the smooth croon of Ty Dolla $ign and flawless production by The Neptunes. It shows off SZA’s signature blend of silky R&B and a fresh, energetic beat.
SZA is also back in the spotlight by gracing the director’s chair for the first time. Her self-directed music video for “Hit Different” is a provocative and visually striking display of killer choreography, horses, parking lots, gymnastics equipment, blinding sunlight, and fake blood. It’s a lot to take in, but we’re happy to indulge in five minutes of sensory overload.
Despite her new single, SZA has yet to clue us into when we can expect a new album. The last time she mentioned a release was during a 2019 interview. Since then, she’s recovered from a vocal cord injury and alluded to disagreements with her label. However, something IS in the works. Fingers crossed that there is more good news and great music ahead.
