The British Are Coming!

5 Bands on the Edge of a New British Invasion

BY: Rudie Obias

It seems that America is long overdue for another British invasion in rock music. Here are 5 hot bands from the United Kingdom that should make waves “across the pond.”

Neon Waltz

From John o’ Groats in Scotland, Neon Waltz combines melodic and shimmering vocals with hard-driving and deeply percussive beats into something that’s a Rock and Roll original. The band released their debut EP Strange Hymns last year, but look for something new and exciting from the band in 2018. Neon Waltz signed to Ignition Records with the hopes of breaking through to the United States.

Black Honey

Led by manic hipster badass Izzy Bee Phillips, who is compared to as a British Lana Del Rey, Brighton’s Black Honey turns pop punk on its head with hard style and bright tones that will have you coming back for more. Their sound reminds me of early Radiohead with a dash of Ash thrown in the mix, while their style is completely irreverent and sassy.

Otherkin

“We want our records to be punchy, lean, and blazing. Straight in, no kissing.” It seems there’s a bit of a garage rock revival with Otherkin leading the rush. The Dublin-based rock band smashes Rock and Roll in the teeth with their party anthems and booze-fueled style. Otherkin sound is influenced by the likes of The Libertines, Phoenix, and Arctic Monkeys, but you know… from Ireland.

King Nun

If The Pixies were British, they’d be King Nun. This London-based rock band is known for their wild stage shows that matches their loud rock art sound. King Nun is so raw and energetic that it seems they’re what’s missing in Rock and Roll today.

INHEAVEN

Straight outta South London, INHEAVEN is starting to make a splash in the U.S. with tour dates  opening for Pale Waves in San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, and Brooklyn. The band’s sound is hard-hitting and political with teenage anthems about religion, art, and women’s rights. INHEAVEN signed to Julian Casablanca’s (The Strokes) record label Cult Records in 2015 with the hopes of conquering America!
