The Highwomen’s Debut
The female country supergroup’s first single

Six months ago, four women in country music rocked their genre by announcing they’d be teaming up to create a band. Grammy winners Brandi Carlile and Maren Morris, along with Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires have joined forces to create The Highwomen.
The Highwomen stepped onto the scene for the first time in April when they performed Kitty Wells’ “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” at Loretta Lynn’s birthday party. They were the topic of the industry buzz immediately, and The Highwomen finally released their first single “Redesigning Women” this week.
“Redesigning Women” has a charming, vintage country feel with a very modern message. The four women harmonize with an endearing twang, but the lyrics they sing are matter-of-fact, with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor. They riff on the woes and double standards women face regularly: “running the world while we’re cleaning up the kitchen.” But they also celebrate the many qualities that make women forces to be reckoned with.
The music video for “Redesigning Women,” starts with the four Highwomen dressed in firefighting gear aboard a firetruck. They soon reach an idyllic-looking country music video setting, an open field where they throw a girls-only party complete with a bonfire fueled by traditional signs of womanhood like aprons, lingerie and a prom queen sash. Party guests include a number of other well-known women in country music like Tanya Tucker, RaeLynn, Lauren Alaina and more.
The Highwomen’s debut album is due out Sept. 6.
