The Lemon Twigs
PROVOKR profile of a band to watch

Past and future, all at once: a teen band called the Lemon Twigs with a retro-inflected sound. Brian D’Addario, 19, and his brother, Michael, 17, are the songwriters and performers, hailing from Long Island, New York. Their dad, Ronnie, was a songwriter, session musician and producer who loved the Beatles and the Beach Boys, and that, clearly, is the root of the Lemon Twigs’ sound, but influences range from the Fifth Dimension to glam rock to power pop. They have a new album out, Do Hollywood, and a single, “These Words” (watch the music video, above), and having performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they’re off on a world tour through the winter (across the U.S., Canada and Europe). The D’Addario brothers are comfortable in front of an audience, having acted as kids: Brian in small parts on TV (Law & Order and CSI:NY) and Michael in key roles in the movies Sinister (as Ethan Hawke’s son) and People Like Us (as Chris Pine’s nephew). “Having to read the same lines every day, you learn how to do a lot of stuff unconsciously and that prevents you from making mistakes,” says Brian of their show-biz upbringing. “The Lemon Twigs is definitely a full-time project, but in the future we’d like to get back into acting. It’d be cool if there was a relationship between acting and what we do musically. There used to be a lot of rock ’n’ roll movies—it’d be really cool to do something like that.” Indeed, and like the Lemon Twigs, what’s old would be new again.
