Troye Sivan has a new look, new song and (hopefully) a new album on the way in 2020.

The young, adorable, newly-redheaded Australian pop artist released a new single last week that’s VERY appropriately titled for the current circumstances. “Take Yourself Home” is a song about reckless abandon with a sprinkle of nihilism that seems strangely fitting for the times. The song’s soundscape and hustling rhythm crescendos throughout its four minutes, building anticipation with artistically crafted techno sounds. It reaches its peak at the very end with a heavy house beat outro that makes us want to dance our existential stresses away.

The lyric video, which was released with the single, pans a cityscape from above, making us fondly remember the outside world and our fellow citizens who are also locked away. At the video’s harsh conclusion, the visuals also get trippier.

“Take Yourself Home” is Sivan’s first solo release since his 2018 debut album Bloom. Online, he’s posted that it’s one of his favorite songs he’s written, and that its meaning is deeply personal to him.

“this was a really scary moment for me,” Sivan wrote in a post on Instagram. “being this honest w myself about my happiness and my life and the way all the pieces fit together, or don’t.”

Sivan seemed to go rogue for this release, defying the date his label had scheduled to drop the single and choosing to give it to us on his own terms. So, it’s not surprising that we don’t have an official name or release date yet for a new album. However, we’re optimistically expecting good news very soon.
