We Adore Paramore

Rose-Colored Boy Zings Zany 70s News Shows

BY: Claire Connors

Everything about the new Paramore single, “Rose-Colored Boy,” screams the 80s. The song, a new wave redux, is a plucky tune filled with synth-pop sounds that are familiar to anyone who loves Brit-pop bands from that decade, like Bananarama.

The video, however, is pure 70s fun. Directed by video vet Warren Fu (Haim, The Weeknd), the band plays a trio of morning news presenters on the TV talk show, Wake Up! Roseville. As they wander from fake TV setup to fake TV setup, the hostess (played to hair-gel perfection by lead singer Hayley Williams) begins to lose her shit. In what can only be called a fantastic replay of the famous on-camera rant by Bill O’Reilly, in which he yells, “Fuck it! Let’s do it live,” Hayley grabs a cup of coffee and throws it into the fuse box supplying electricity the TV show. As the video ends, Hayley looks into the camera, barely holding it together. Bravo, Hayley!

This is the fourth single off Paramore’s critically-acclaimed fifth studio album, After Laughter. Both are available on iTunes.
