Jahseh Onfroy or better known as XXXTentacion was a sound cloud rapper who soon became a worldwide hip-hop sensation. However, the talented rapper’s fame did not skyrocket until his shocking death in June. The 20-year-old was pronounced dead after an unexpected shooting that occurred outside of a motorcycle dealership in South Florida. Ever since his horrific death, the young musician’s album ? and the track “Moonlight,” sold an extra 500,000 copies, was certified as platinum, and also shot up to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 list making it X’s first chart-topping album.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, XXXTentacion left a huge musical footprint due to his positive contributions to his young fan base throughout the years. Therefore, the editors at Rolling Stone were right. The talented artist left behind groundbreaking tunes that must be heard. So, his posthumous career continued on September 30, when X’s team released the music video “Moonlight,” Which was one of 18 songs from his latest album.

The rapper is well known for his depressing and at times distressing tunes with heavy instrumentals. Hence, the dark track “Moonlight,” reveals just that. Director JMP shot the music video at an outdoor gathering under the moonlight. Right from the start, XXXTentacion becomes an observer within this video, as he watches individuals pass him by, having a good time. Though, a few minutes into the film he stands up and makes his way to the group underneath the moonlight wearing headphones, a Louis Vuitton sling bag, and wearing a smile ear to ear portraying that this atmosphere is considered his “safe space.”

Although, you will continuously see XXXTentacion reflecting and embracing the world around him. JMP painted a visual picture of what is going on inside of X’s mind and how we should perceive his thought process. Towards the end of the video, you will see XXXTentacion becoming one with the group and coming back to reality. Lastly, “Energy never dies. He is among us. LONG LIVE JAH,” appears at the very end to honor his name, legacy, and his beautiful music.

The “Moonlight” track goes hand-in-hand with the posthumously “SAD!” video. Help keep XXXTentacion legacy alive by checking out his music below.
