Zayn Wants An Entertainer
Ex-One Direction Star's New Music Video Saga
Former-One Direction singer Zayn Malik just released a new music video for the single “Entertainer,” from his upcoming second album, which is currently untitled. The new video finds the British pop star lurking through dark strip clubs looking for his “favorite” entertainer, while also remembering the good times with his former lover in seedy motel rooms.
The music video for “Entertainer” continues the storyline from Malik’s past music videos “Dusk Till Dawn” (featuring Sia) and “Let Me,” which are also singles from his upcoming album. It features Instagram model Sofia Jamora, as she dawns a blonde wig and performs a steamy lap dance for Zayn.
All three music videos feature Zayn as a shifty character running a mysterious briefcase from crime scene to crime scene in Miami, Florida. They also feature actor Steven Bauer (Breaking Bad) and Jamora.
The song itself has a nice groove as it builds towards a sexy and seductive climax with wonderful beat drops and snappy lyrics, as Zayn comes to terms with the end of a relationship. “Guess you didn’t know that you were my favorite entertainer/I watch you and laugh with, and fuck with you/Don’t you tear me for a fool/In this game, I own the rules.” The song also takes a look at the fine line between love, lust, and mind-games between lovers.
Zayn is having an interesting career post-One Direction. While he’s not the most popular member of the boy band (that award goes to Harry Styles), I think he has the most talent as a recording artists releasing a bunch of singles and a presence in music videos. He’s not tasked with the overabundance of celebrity, so it seems he’s free to create thoughtful and sexy music, more so than any other member of One Direction.
“It’s all very under wraps at the minute. I’m trying to keep it as mysterious as possible, but there’s a plan with the roll out,” Zayn said in the interview on Beats 1 on Apple Music. “It’s going to be different than anything anyone has done before. It’s going to be interesting to see how the audience reacts to this kind of release. I wanted to try something different, I think it’s all going to make sense in the end when the album finally drops.”
Zayn’s new album has yet to announce a release date or title, but we’re damn sure excited to what he has more to offer us. Look for it on Spotify and Apple Music in the near future.
And of the new album, he promised “It’s going to reach people a bit differently and hopefully solidify the fact that yeah, I am a solo artist. I mean business.”
