Zayn Malik is back and better than ever with a sensual new love song.
Zayn’s single “Better” dropped on Sept. 25, just hours after the former One Direction member announced his and supermodel Gigi Hadid’s baby girl’s birth. The track itself seems to be a sweet ode to Hadid and their on-again-off-again relationship. After plenty of romantic turmoil, it seems the pair bonded for good with their child’s arrival.
The lyrics of “Better” show a Zayn apologetic for past faults but optimistically looks forward to a loving future. He promises affection and dedication to the listener, while the slow and steady R&B melody gives the track a profoundly romantic vibe.
The music video for “Better” is a one-man show, portraying a pensive Zayn lounging shirtless in a very chic art-deco living room. As the video progresses, we watch him slowly dress in a fitted suit while he gazes thoughtfully around the room. It feels intimate and personal with a subtle delicacy that matches the emotion of the song itself.
It marks Zayn’s first solo release since he dropped his supersized sophomore album, Icarus Falls, in late 2018. Although no plans for a third album have been circulating yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was more new music from Zayn on the way.
