“I love the flesh. I am a photographer of the skin,” said celebrated French photographer Bettina Rheims of her artistic career. Rheims is especially focused on the female body since, as she has explained, “I shoot women because I know them, as I’m a woman myself. I understand their fears, I have their same hang-ups, I make the same dreams. It’s more exciting for me to penetrate a woman’s mind. It’s like doing a self-portrait.” Rheims’s Instagram feed is every bit as provocative and inspirational as the infamous series she did on strippers and acrobats that first brought her acclaim back in 1978.
