With Camera in Love, the Stedelijk Museum presents the largest overview of Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken’s photographs and films that has taken place in over twenty years. A unique figure, Van der Elsken was renowned as a street photographer, and is recognized as the most important Dutch photographer of the 20th century.
The first true Dutch street photographer, van der Elsken roamed cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Tokyo seeking out colorful personalities, head-turning young women and wayward youth. He both chronicled and influenced the zeitgeist, developing a bold, unconventional and personal style. Camera in Love will be on view at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam from February 4 through May 21.
