Dangerous Women
A photo book that proves the girl next door was always a rebel

For his book Snapshots of Dangerous Women, art collector Peter Cohen scoured estate sales and flea markets searching for photographs of women from the early to mid twentieth century who were gleefully flouting the social norms of their time. The collection—which features everyday women engaging in “scandalous” behavior like smoking, riding motorcycles, flashing some cleavage and dressing in drag—unfolds like a feminist anthem, providing visual proof that the women’s liberation movement was going strong long before it made national news in the 1960s.
