"We know that people are formed by the light and air, by their inherited traits, and their actions. We can tell from appearance the work someone does or does not do; we can read in his face whether he is happy or troubled" August Sander from “Man of the Twentieth Century” This is Joni Sternbach @jstersurf for @icp this week as part of ICP Spotlights. My project, SurfLand is a collection of contemporary tintype portraits of surfers using the historic wet-plate collodion process. Meeting new people each day while shooting is part of the project. Photographed in Hossegor, France, amidst rain and sun are these stunning Lightning Bolts and Brewer boards from a spectacular private surfboard collection. #Surfland #tintype #wetplatecollodion #Surfsitetintype #ICPSpotlights #ICPBowery #ICPAlumni #surfer
