Mairi-Luise Tabbakh
Erotica observed by a woman’s discerning eye

To the casual observer, Mairi-Luise Tabbakh’s erotic photographs of women might easily be taken for a man’s. The women pictured are so overtly sexual, so openly objectified. “I photograph friends, lovers, family (my sister-in-law, Eliane), models and people whose beauty I am attracted to,” she said in a recent interview. “It’s very intimate and candid.” And quite popular, especially since superstar artist Damien Hirst started collecting her work. Tabbakh, English-born to a Scottish mother and Arabic father, has always aimed high. “My biggest inspirations are Helmut Newton, Bruce Weber and Nan Goldin,” she said. “All of them are special in their own way.” Indeed, and so is Tabbakh. The photographs assembled here by PROVOKR are ample proof of that.
