Walker Evans in Paris

Astounding at the Centre Pompidou

BY: PROVOKR Editors

This great exhibition is focused on the work of Walker Evans and curated from a French perspective. The show is magnificent in its presentation and provoking thought about the artist’s work.

Walker Evans started taking photographs when he was 27 years old and had success fairly quickly taking pictures for Time and Fortune magazines. He left his mark on history by taking the most poignant photographic portraitures.

If you are in Paris this summer it is a gift to stop and spend time with his work and gaze into the eyes of the people he photographed. One can never say enough about the power of his images and the social statements those images have made upon society. The quality and execution of his work has always been absolutely peerless but it is hammered home in breathtaking image after image. Walker Evans take me to church.
