Warhol’s Screen Tests

Pop portraiture at its most intriguing

In the mid-1960s, Andy Warhol rounded up more than 400 people—from Hollywood actors to prestigious artists to his pals from the Factory—and had them sit for three minutes in front of a motion picture camera. Warhol’s intent was to simply capture the essence of each of his models as they sat in silence without any direction from Warhol.  Here are some of the striking results:
