POST MALONE

Wearing His Heart On His Sleeve

Post Malone has been one of the hottest names in rap. Songs like “Congratulations” and “White Iverson” ruled the charts and speakers at parties, bars and clubs all over the world in 2015 and 2016. But the 24-year-old shows us, again and again, that he’s also capable of heart wrenching, vulnerable lyric writing, too.

“I Fall Apart,” the deeply emotional ballad from his debut album Stoney, is always a crowd favorite. It’s the track that bridges the gap between his party anthem rapped over trap beats and the softer, more melodious Post Malone we’ve come to know and love. His successful sophomore album Beerbongs & Bentleys also showcases his versatility and riotous, high-energy tracks like “rockstar (featuring 21 Savage)” along with soft acoustic jams like “Stay.”

Post Malone’s newest album Hollywood’s Bleeding was released in September and is perhaps his most emotive yet. “Goodbyes (featuring Young Thug),” a single released prior to the album, is a sorrowful breakup song about desperation and the need to forget. It’s strangely and modernly beautiful, resonating with many and peaking at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other similarly moving tracks on Hollywood’s Bleeding include “A Thousand Bad Times,” “I Know” and “Die For Me,” a collaboration with Halsey and Future.

Post Malone’s talent for blending the soft and wild elements of songwriting make him stand out among the crowd of emerging rappers. His talents should continue that winning streak as he releases more and more music. We, here at PROVOKR, love the way his songs energize us in action and emotion and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
