Like many, we at PROVOKR were devastated by the news of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death. As a champion of women’s rights and gender equality, her presence on the bench never went unnoticed. Appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, RBG wasn’t afraid to be a dissenting voice. Later in life — specifically in the last ten years — she became a cultural icon that young girls admired. From the documentary about her life (RBG) to the biopic (On The Basis of Sex) and even to her workout routine, people everywhere turned to Ruth Bader Ginsburg for wisdom with a dash of sass. To honor the Supreme RBG, PROVOKR takes you through some of her most iconic quotes to offer some insightful and comforting words.

“I ask no favor for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.”

“Every now and then it helps to be a little deaf…That advice has stood me in good stead. Not simply in dealing with my marriage, but in dealing with my colleagues.”

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”

“My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”

“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.”

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, you will definitely be remembered for your talents and for doing your work to the best of your ability. Rest in power.
