THE GRIPPING 3%

Third Season Of Netflix's Acclaimed Hit Is Here

Netflix knows what it’s doing when it comes to original programming, especially its foreign language series. The first Portuguese project Netflix acquired, 3%, returns June 7, and it’s a show you’re not going to want to miss.

If you’re unfamiliar with the premise, it’s kind of like Hunger Games meets Divergent. (We obviously haven’t escaped the young adult dystopian era). Every year, 20-year-olds in the impoverished inland in the distant future are chosen to partake in The Process. The tests weed out 97 percent leaving the 3 percent to head to The Offshore, a near paradise where people live in wealth.

The series closely follows Michele (Binaca Comparato) and her friend Fernando (Michel Gomes), who want to survive the system but also overthrow it in some senses. Some people cheat their way through, others barely make it out alive, and some don’t make it at all.

Now for season three, the characters find the desert sanctuary The Shell. There they are given the opportunity to reset the button and make a world of their own, but having known only one way, they struggle to break the rules that created Offshore.

With only 18 episodes in its two seasons, the Brazilian show is definitely bingeable. So add this drama to your list, settle in with some popcorn and take a weekend to watch the gripping tale. You won’t regret it.
