4 FANTASY SHOWS IN PRODUCTION
Game of Thrones Is Out, Other Fantasy Is In

OK, Game of Thrones lovers. We know what you’re thinking: “How am I going to get my sexy fantasy fill when GoT ends in May?” Well, fret not because several projects are in development. Movies will become TV shows, and the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel will move forward when someone sits on the Iron Throne. (My bet is on Jon Snow.) We can’t promise these shows will have as much nudity — and we hope they have zero incest — but we can say for sure these shows should be on your radar:
LORD OF THE RINGS
It has been almost 20 years (!!!) since Peter Jackson graced the world with a trip through J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth, so it seems like the perfect time for an in-depth series about the beloved 1950s novels. Amazon picked up the rights, and the five-season series will follow Aragorn in his early years and presumably lead up to when he meets Frodo. Amazon has the writers locked in a room somewhere to complete the scripts and start production by 2020. It appears fans will have a new obsession by 2021.
THE DARK TOWER
Remember that awful Stephen King adaptation that came out a couple years ago starring Idris Elba? It’s going to be a series on Amazon. But just because the movie was terrible, that doesn’t mean the series won’t be great. The show will follow gunslinger Roland on his journeys to The Dark Tower. No actors have been tied to the project, and it seems Elba won’t return. The show is just one of many King adaptations to look forward to, with IT: Chapter 2 and Pet Sematary out in theaters this year.
GOOD OMENS
Amazon will bring all of your fantasy needs, as it will produce Good Omens starring Dr. Who star David Tennant and Frost/Nixon actor Michael Sheen. The show is set in the U.K. where the keeper of the east gate of heaven and the serpent from the Garden of Eden try to prevent the apocalypse. The show premieres May 31, and it features an all-star cast of Frances McDormand, Jon Hamm and Nick Offerman.
GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL
And now the one we’ve all been waiting for: The Game of Thrones prequel. The project doesn’t have an official name yet, and we’re not really sure what the plot will be. Those pesky creators like to keep their show’s plots under wraps. It’s likely the series starring the likes of Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse and Jamie Campbell Bower will start filming when the final episodes of its mother show will end. The prequel could be just one of five spin-off series in the works at HBO, but that will become more clear in May. Even though it doesn’t have a release date yet, this show the most anticipated fantasy series in production right now.
