5 TV SHOWS YOU’LL LOVE
New Programs That Stimulate Our Senses

Winter is coming, but Game of Thrones is nowhere to be seen. Regardless, there’s still a ton of provocative new shows vying for attention, and they all deserve a shot. Here’s some of PROVOKR’s most anticipated shows of the fall season:
SMILF
Comedy queen Frankie Shaw writes, directs, and stars in SMILF, based on her 2015 short film. The show follows Bridgette, a young, single Bostonian Southie Mother (I‘d Like to Fuck) who tries to balance life, love, and her career. It’s not easy, but the show looks like a whimsically heartfelt drama with a healthy helping of X-rated humor. Rosie O’Donnell co-stars as Tutu, Bridgette’s mother, and Connie Britton recurs as her boss.
SMILF debuts November 5 on Showtime.
Godless
Netflix just won’t stop their unrelenting barrage of compelling new shows for us to devour like ravenous media consumers, and their latest series is one of their most ambitious efforts yet. Produced by Steven Soderbergh, Godless involves Jeff Daniels, Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), and Jack O’Connell (Tulip Fever) in the Old West, as gang warfare encroaches on an peculiar town run entirely by women. The trailer features some truly striking imagery, as well as a chilling narration: “Tis a human thing, to love what death has touched.” Needless to say, we’re in.
Godless streams on Netflix starting November 22.
Tin Star
Tim Roth‘s latest series landed on Amazon Prime in September, but it’s so good we have to recommend watching if you missed it the first time around. The Reservoir Dogs star plays a hard-boiled British detective who takes a cozy job in Canada, only to stumble on a massive – and murderous – conspiracy involving a dangerously well-connected oil company. Oh, and did we mention he has a vicious alter ego who emerges when he falls under the influence of alcohol? It’s a wild ride, to say the least.
The Runaways
Marvel‘s cinematic universe just keeps expanding. From the big screen adventures of The Avengers to the gritty stories of The Defenders and the sci-fi mysteries of Agents of SHIELD, Marvel has laid their claim to a wide berth of the entertainment landscape. Along with 2018’s Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways looks to expand their influence to the YA genre.
The Runaways is about a group of teenagers who discover they have superpowers. They are true heroes! The only problem is, their parents are part of an elite team of supervillains, known as The Pride. Needless to say, there’s a lot of tension around the dining room tables of these families.
The Runaways launches November 21 on Hulu.
At Home With Amy Sedaris
Finally, not every show needs to be an epic tale of death, destruction, vengeance, and redemption. Sometimes, you just need to unwind with one of the sexiest/funny women on television. Amy Sedaris can do no wrong; lately, we’ve been getting our fix of the Strangers with Candy star from her scene-stealing performances in shows like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Horace & Pete, but now she’s back in the spotlight with a brand new series all her own: At Home with Amy Sedaris is an affectionate parody of the “lady talking to the camera about arts and crafts” genre so popular on TV today, infused with Sedaris‘s signature brand of surreal comedy.
At Home with Amy Sedaris premieres October 24 on truTV.
