AKA JANE ROE
FX Doc on the Case of Roe v. Wade

It has been 47 years since the landmark case of Roe v. Wade gave women the right to an abortion. At the center of the case was Jane Roe, aka Norma McCorvey, who sued for her right to have the procedure. McCorvey is now the focus of an upcoming FX documentary, Aka Jane Roe. Years after the abortion, McCorvey became a born-again Christian and joined the pro-life movement. In a never-before-seen interview, Norma McCorvey confesses from her deathbed why she made that massive shift in her life.
“If a young woman wants to have an abortion, fine! You know, that’s no skin off my ass. You know that’s why they call it choice. It’s your choice,” McCorvey says in the documentary. “Roe vs. Wade helped save women’s lives.”
Before McCorvey died Feb. 18, 2017, director Nick Sweeney captured an incredible interview used in the documentary. The revelation that comes from Aka Jane Roe — we’re not going to spoil it — is life-altering. This documentary could cause seismic shifts in the abortion-rights fight by exposing the history of the movement. It is especially impactful at a time some states are working to roll back a woman’s right to choose.
Aka Jane Roe is the first full-length documentary on FX. And because of its new partnership with Hulu, it will be available to stream the next day. With media covering the doc at full force, it won’t be a surprise if Aka Jane Roe is a hit.
