ALICE BRAGA
Queen Of The South's Brazilian Badass

Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino, best known for his on-screen drama, Call Me by Your Name, has a hit with his new television show, We Are Who We Are. The HBO miniseries showcases an American base in Italy. The story revolves around a military family of openly gay parents and a teenage boy trying to figure out life. The series will rip your guts out and piece you back together again in one fell swoop. The show features Chloë Sevigny and rapper Kid Cudi, but Alice Braga‘s performance as military physician Maggie Teixeira steals the show.

Of her character, Braga said, “I think Maggie struggles with the idea that she loves Fraser and she lives her life for him and this family, but at the same time [she] doesn’t have the acknowledgement as a mother.” Of the show overall, she said, “there are so many differences, that’s the pepper in the sauce. At the same time, they are just a family. I think that’s why the show is called, We Are Who We Are, because people are different, and at the same time when we take from each other and we learn from each other, we never stop finding who we are.”
This Brazilian badass isn’t new to the screen. 37-year old Braga has received accolades for her Brazilian projects since the late nineties and early 2000s. Her role as Angelica in the 2002 film the City of God advanced her career, helping her to land a leading role alongside Will Smith in the 2007 movie I Am Legend.

Coming Down The Line:
The popular series Queen of the South is returning for a fifth season. The crime drama, created by Joshua John Miller, tells the tale of a desperate woman who turns to a life of crime and drug running. Think Breaking Bad, but sexier. With the show’s success, its renewal was announced in August 2019, just after season four. But, COVID-19 created production issues and delayed the project. While fans wait for its release date, the next thirteen episodes may not air until June 2021.
