AMERICAN HORROR STORY RANKED
+ The Upcoming Season, Double Feature

If you want a sign that things are starting to return to normal, the title for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming 10th season of American Horror Story was released. And, as usual, it’s difficult to imagine where this will go. Titled Double Feature, perhaps it will continue with the film theme established in 1984.
Much of the cast is returning: Frances Conroy, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross, Finn Wittrock, Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts. Joining the cast is Macaulay Culkin, Paris Jackson and Kaia Gerber. Yea, so, it’s going to be good.
In that spirit, we’re bringing you our ranking of the nine seasons and we encourage you to do the same:
9. CULT
Even though it’s dead last on our list, we still love some aspects of this season. I mean, who could hate Evan Peters’ portrayal of Charles Manson? Maybe the subject matter was just a little too real following the 2016 election.
8. 1984
OK, the concept for 1984 was killer. It paid homage to slasher films and took place at a summer camp. If the other seasons weren’t so good, this definitely would have ranked higher.
7. APOCALYPSE
Apocalypse was cool because it brought together a lot of the previous seasons. The addition of Billy Eichner to the cast and the fact they’re all stuck in a bunker really elevates the season.
6. FREAK SHOW
Everyone’s worst fear: killer clowns. Freak Show started its season off incredibly strong, but it didn’t end on the most amazing note. That’s OK, though, because it still hits the middle of our ranking.
5. HOTEL
If you can get through the first few episodes of Hotel, the ending is so worth the reward. Taken place in a hotel modeled after The Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, this season dares you to enter and meet its guests — which includes Lady Gaga.
4. MURDER HOUSE
Ah, season one, you hold a special place in our hearts. Murder House was such a well-executed season with just the right dose of crazy in its plot twists.
3. COVEN
Coven, it seems, is the fan-favorite season. Who doesn’t love witches? Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts are particularly compelling in this one. Set in New Orleans, it’s one that will have you mesmerized.
2. ROANOKE
Talk about plot twists. Roanoke’s insane mid-season shift had everyone talking. Not to mention the house in Roanoke features some of the craziest things we’ve seen on TV. (Hello, Lady Gaga in the basement.)
1. ASYLUM
Anything with Sarah Paulson in the lead role has our vote. Her character infiltrates an asylum and some crazy things happen. From the acting to the plot and everything in between, Asylum is the obvious best season of American Horror Story.
