BABES FROM BABYLON BERLIN
The Two Stars Who Steal The Show

You know them as Gereon Rath and Charlotte Ritter on the German crime drama Babylon Berlin. But the world knows them as Volker Bruch and Liv Lisa Fries.
The two of them make up the bad-guy catching team on the Netflix series Babylon Berlin. The neo-noir show takes place during the years of the Weimar Republic, where the cabaret meets high-profile crime. It’s in the age of rampant crime, and Gereon is the detective who is going to stop it. Then there’s Charlotte, a stenographer who wants to find her way on the police force. (But we all know it goes when women want to break the glass ceiling — it doesn’t really work in our favor).

While the stars turn tassels in the 20s-era series, they’ve been turning heads IRL. Let’s start with Volker. For the first several years of his career, Volker starred in guest roles on German TV. In 2008, he appeared in the Oscar-nominated film Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. Then he had a supporting role in the American World War II film The Reader starring beauty Kate Winslet. But his breakout role came in 2013.
That performance was as one of the five main protagonists in the miniseries Generation War. The show follows a group of five friends who go to war and promise each other to be back by Christmas. Volker was nominated for a German Television Award for his honest and guttural portrayal.
Then that brings us to Liv, whose credits are similar and just as impressive. Like Voker, Liv guest starred in a lot of TV series and obtained supporting roles in films. Her breakout role came in 2013 for the film Zurich. In the emotional film, she plays Lea, a woman who lives with cystic fibrosis. She really leaves it all on the table, and that’s what we love about her.
Now, Volker and Liv have propelled into international success through Netflix and their stellar performances. We just can’t wait for season three, which is slated for a late 2019 release, and we want it to be here tomorrow.
