STEAMY STREAMING: School Daze
Fame, Wild Things, Superbad + more!

School is back in session, and that means the parents are happy and the students are not. Whether you’re in school or out, there is a lot to be said about the best back to school movies to aide your nostalgia or get you through those tough classes. We’ve compiled your go to list to combat the school daze season:
THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Let’s get this one out of the way first because it’s the most obvious one on the list. The Brat Pack was in full force in the 80s, and nothing said that more than Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson getting stuck in detention together. It took every archetype and put it in one room for a chill but thrilling 97 minutes. There is definitely a reason we can’t forget about it — and it’s not just because of the Simple Minds song at the end. The Breakfast Club is available to rent on YouTube.
DEAD POET’S SOCIETY
The late great Robin Williams proved that a comedic actor can still have dramatic flair, and nothing highlighted that better than in Dead Poets Society. The 1989 film takes place at an all boys school where a secret poetry society is created. And when two of those students are played by Josh Charles and Ethan Hawke, there’s no reason not to watch. Dead Poets Society is available to rent on YouTube.
FAME
We all want to be famous — some more than others. Some of the really ambitious people start at magnet schools at high school ages. Crazy, right? The movie has been through a few remakes (the A Star Is Born treatment) with the most recent being in 2009. That version is available with a Starz subscription, and we can’t recommend it enough.
10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
Oh, Heath Ledger, how we miss you. If you thought the Joker’s painted-on grin was wicked, you haven’t seen anything until you see Ledger’s smile in 10 Things I Hate About You. He’s paired up with the insightful and tough Julia Stiles, who is full of angst and absolutely fabulous. It’s easy to watch and will fill your heart.
SUPERBAD
Superbad is truly for everyone. If you hit the books too hard like Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, then you’ll feel the relatability. If you were a partier, then you’ll feel nostalgic. Either way, you’ll love the McLovin, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen scenes. Prepare for the laugh riot, as the film is available on Netflix.
WILD THINGS
Now, we’re not condoning sex with underage people then those people blackmailing the adult. But, OK, Matt Dillon is hot and we can’t blame the two characters in Wild THings for finding him attractive. If anything, just watch it for the steamy pool scene. It won’t disappoint.
