STEAMY STREAMING: SEXY SITCOMS
Younger, Barry, Weeds, Californication + more!

Summer is the time to feel good about yourself and the things around you, so watching heavy dramas on your favorite platforms isn’t always the right mood. Some prefer light-hearted, adult comedy with plenty of sexy people. The best part about starting a 30-minutes-or-less series is that you can knock out a whole season in a week if you’re truly dedicated. If that’s you, then there are plenty of sitcoms available on all the streaming platforms:
YOUNGER
This TVLand beauty is in its sixth season, and it’s going strong. The show follows Liza Miller (played by Broadway-famous Sutton Foster) as a 40-year-old who can’t get a job, so she pretends to be in her 20s. Her fraudulent life is complex, which makes for great TV. You can stream seasons 1-5 on Hulu, and season six is available on TVLand.com.
VEEP
What’s tougher than being the President of the United States? Being the Vice President. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Senator-turned-VP Selina Meyer. The series ended its run in May, so all seven seasons are available to stream on HBO.
EASY
The Netflix Original Series Easy is all about a group of friends finding their way sexually in the modern era. Some of them are married and looking to spice up their sex life in any way possible. Others have to rely on dating apps and finding their way through hookup culture. It’s refreshing to see not-so-perfect sex sometimes to make the on screen not seem too different from reality. The third season dropped May 10, so there is just the right amount of bingeing to do.
SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT
Spike Lee takes his 1986 movie She’s Gotta Have It and turns it into a series fit for the modern woman. Breakout star DeWanda Wise balances her professional and personal life, while exploring her sexuality. It’s a beautiful and funny show, and a new season hit Netflix in May. Check it out if you’re looking to fall in love with a new show.
SANTA CLARITA DIET
Netflix announced shortly after the third season of the Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant-led Santa Clarita Diet came out that the show would not return for a fourth season. That caused an uproar on social media, and many are hoping it does in fact come back. The dark comedy show follows Barrymore as she becomes what can only be a zombie who craves raw, human meat. It seems gross, but it’s actually very hilarious.
WEEDS
Mary-Louise Parker stars as a suburban house mom who turns to selling weed after her husband dies. It turns out to be a very profitable business. Weeds premiered in 2005 and ended its run in 2012. It might be a bit dated, but that’s what makes it so endearing.
FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE
This Netflix Original follows a group of friends who reconnect 20 years after graduating college. Keegan-Michael Key and Cobie Smulders star as former lovers, which kickstarts some of the drama in the series. It’s fun, light and a worthwhile binge.
THE GOOD PLACE
Kristen Bell assumes the main role in this NBC hit. The series is set in The Good Place, which is pretty much the equivalent of heaven. In this place, though, everyone is set up with their soulmates and live with them. It’s an interesting premise with a season one twist that will blow you away. The Good Place is available to stream on Netflix.
BARRY
This HBO series has amassed a huge following. The title role is played by Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader, who plays a hitman who moves to LA and gets involved in theater. The show is as wacky and funny as it sounds.
GIRLS
If you really want to see an accurate representation of what it’s like to be a woman in your early 20s, watch HBO’s Girls. The series ran for six seasons, and it stars Lena Dunham and Allison Williams. It’s a must-watch for sure.
DEAD TO ME
Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate are the new TV dream team. The dynamic duo is the focus of Netflix’s new series Dead To Me. Both women find themselves in grief counseling, and a bond is formed. But something is off with Cardellini’s character, and Applegate is going to figure it out. There’s good news about this show: It’s set to return for season two.
CALIFORNICATION
This Showtime hit follows a father who finds freedom in being single, but still wants to get his ex-girlfriend back. You won’t believe the amount of women this guy hooks up with all while trying to balance his writing career and parenting.
