At its heart, Casual is a comedy about a dysfunctional LA family. There’s Valerie (Michaela Watkins), a therapist who’s jumped back into the dating pool after her marriage breaks up; there’s her younger, bachelor brother, Alex (Tommy Dewey) whose intimacy issues keep him forever on the prowl; and there’s Valerie’s teen daughter Laura (Tara Lynne Barr) whose hormones are kicking in with a vengeance. Because the family’s universal dysfunction is to use sex to distract themselves from the messier parts of their emotional lives, Casual serves up a variety of erotic scenes—meeting a stranger for anonymous sex, negotiating the parameters of a threesome, trying to seduce an older man—and successfully mines them for laughs. Even if half-hour sitcoms are not usually your thing, Casual‘s sex scenes—like the three shown here—will make you completely forget you’re watching a comedy.
