CATE BLANCHETT
Her Stunning TV Moves in Stateless + Mrs. America

Cate Blanchett is a certified movie star. As the proud recipient of two Oscars, the Australian actress has entertained viewers in movies like Blue Jasmine, The Aviator and Carol. Recently, the beauty has returned to her roots in television.

Before her breakout role in 1998’s Elizabeth, Cate Blanchett had recurring roles in two mini-series: Heartland and Bordertown. Heartland was a 13-episode crime series. Bordertown told the story of Australian immigrants, which may have prepared her for the upcoming Netflix series, Stateless.
Stateless, an Australian drama that Blanchett co-created, is a multi-storyline series that follows four immigrants, who end up at the same immigration detention center in Australia’s outback. Netflix provides us with the first look of Blanchett in the role. It seems she plays a cabaret singer and looks damn good doing it. See it above.
Earlier this year, Cate Blanchett played women’s rights antagonizer, Phyllis Schlafly in FX’s and Hulu’s Mrs. America. The nine-part series feels more like a long movie with the binge-able nature of its compelling narrative. Blanchett is as poised as ever in the drama and Rose Byrne serves as an excellent foil playing feminist Gloria Steinem.
But, like all real movie stars, Cate Blanchett’s shift toward TV won’t become permanent. She has five movies premiering in the next couple of years, including Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and Aaron Sorkin’s Lucy and Desi and Blanchett plays comedy icon Lucille Ball. It should be a fruitful period for Cate Blanchett — one that could produce an Emmy and an Oscar. PROVOKR can’t wait to find out.
