Proceed with caution because this article spoils the first season of Netflix’s Dead to Me starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.
That’s right, the hit black-comedy is back and better than ever. As the trailer shows, season two of the Netflix Original Series picks up where it left off: with Steve (James Marsden) dead in Jen (Applegate) ‘s pool. The bloody affair brought Judy’s fianceé to his demise and now the women have to find a way to keep it quiet.
They run through the typical ways to dispose of a body. Do they burn it? Soak it in a tub of acid? (That didn’t work out very well in Breaking Bad.) Whatever they do, they have to figure it out quickly because the cops are on their tails. It’s TV “law” that detectives suspect the significant other first. Diana Maria Riva steps into the role as the primary detective, who will likely connect the dots.
“It will be about the further exploration of this friendship and relationship and now very complicated dynamic, or even more complicated dynamic between these two women,” creator Liz Feldman told Entertainment Weekly. “But in the most basic way, the score has been evened. What I wanted to do was create a situation where they’re forced together and they need each other now in some ways more than they did at the beginning of season one.”
The evened-out playing field (in case you forgot, Judy was the one who killed Jen’s husband) will create an interesting dynamic, but the women haven’t lost the knack for quick banter. It’s thrilling to see two women as strong comedic leads. PROVOKR can’t wait until May 8 when season two drops on Netflix.
