Dopesick is an upcoming Hulu dramatic eight-episode miniseries about how one company caused one of the biggest American epidemics of Opioid addiction. The series is based on Beth Macy’s nonfiction book, Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America. (If you didn’t know, the term “dope sick” is slang for drug withdrawal symptoms.)

The show has an excellent star-studded cast. It includes Michael Keaton as Dr. Samuel Finnix, Peter Sarsgaard as Rick Mountcastle, Will Poulter as Billy Cutler, John Hoogenakker as Randy Ramseyer, Kaitlyn Dever as Betsy Mallum, Rosario Dawson as Bridget Meyer, Michael Stuhlbarg as Richard Sackler, Will Chase as Michael Friedman, Jake McDorman as John Brownlee, Phillipa Soo as Amber, Arischa Conner as Leah Turner, Andrea Frankle as Beth Sackler, Ian Unterman as Jonathan Sackler, Lawrence Arancio as Raymond Sackler, Andres Erickson as Mortimer D.A. Sackler, Brendan Patrick Connor as Howard Udell, R. Keith Harris as Martin Willis, and Jamie Ray Newman as Kathe Sackler. The series is directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland), Barry Levinson (The Survivor), Patricia Riggen (The 33), and Danny Strong (The Hunger Games).

When asked about why he chose the series, Michael Keaton (Batman Returns, American Assassin) said in an interview:
“I did things here and there on television, but not much,” Keaton said. “Pound for pound, [TV] has gotten so good over the last 10 years [or so]. Quality is quality, so in this instance […] the writing was so good […] it just gets very obvious; when you read something that’s good, it gets real clear, real quick, and the words just jump off the page. For me, it just kind of doesn’t matter [if it’s TV or film].”

Join us as we wait in anticipation for Dopesick to air. It premieres on October 13 on Hulu, so be ready! In the meantime, check out the trailer below:
