The Golden Globe-winning actress Elisabeth Moss has people’s heads turning—and I’m talking whirl-around Exorcist style. PROVOKR has a Halloween inspired movie marathon list that showcases the mistress of horror herself, Elisabeth Moss. Earlier this year, Moss told The New York Times, “I’ve always been a fan of horror films. Ever since I was 11 or 12, I would get together with my girlfriends from ballet school and we’d have sleepovers and we’d watch scary movies.” It’s October, grab your bestie–and a blanket to hide behind– and cuddle up to these three visions of terror.

Us

Directed by Jordan Peele, Us is a movie filled with diabolical doubles and doppelgängers. In it, Moss plays both Kitty and Dahlia, whose contrasts keep you squirming in your seat. With an undertone of political and social commentary, this scissor-wielding slasher is hard to pin down within any specific genre. Just know that by the end of the film, you may be terrified to look in the mirror in more ways than one.

The Invisible Man

Directed by Leigh Whannell– the maker of SawThe Invisible Man is a modern-day adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells science-fiction novel of the same namesake. Moss plays Cecilia Kass, whose abusive ex-boyfriend–played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen– leaves her a large sum of money after his apparent suicide. The film turns into a deranged Sleeping With the ‘Invisible’ Enemy, resulting in, well, you’ll see.

Shirley

Released on Hulu on June 5th, Shirley is probably the freakiest film on this Halloween Haunts list. Directed by Josephine Decker and produced by Moss, Shirley is a fictional interpretation of the famous writer Shirley Jackson. You may remember her short story The Lottery from your sophomore year Lit class or, more recently, from the Netflix adaptation of her book, The Haunting of Hill House. The film is terrifying, electric, and brilliantly mad. Try to turn away as this husband and wife team– played by Elisabeth Moss and Michael Stuhlbarg– “take in” a pair of young boarders for some psychological litera-torture.

Not only will this bone-chilling movie marathon get you ready for Halloween, but you will also be prepared for what Moss has in store for us next. Alongside the upcoming The French Dispatch and the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth stars in the limited series, Candy. Despite the sweet title, the series will depict the true-life horror of Texas killer Candy Montgomery. Written by Robin Veith of Mad Men, the true-crime thriller is still searching for a streaming platform to call home.
