EMILY IN PARIS
Lily Collins in a French Sex and the City

In 1998, When Carrie Bradshaw of Sex & the City decided she should have “sex like a man,” jaws dropped. People were thrilled by the openness and ease in which the four fabulous friends talked about sex, money, and relationships. But the glamorous crew, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda, did more than make Manolo Blahnik and Fendi household names. They created fashion trends for six seasons, broke down barriers, and gave women an authentic voice on television. Don’t forget— Carrie and the girls virtually invented the ‘boss babe’ ideal, and the man behind all of that trope-busting drama was creator Darren Star.
No doubt Star has another sensation with the Netflix original, Emily in Paris. In Paris, the show stars Lily Collins as Emily Cooper to serve as the “American point of view” for a big marketing firm. The official trailer teases fantastic fashion and European life’s splendor through a young American woman’s lens. Think Sex & the City meets Gossip Girl, wrapped in The Devil Wears Prada.
According to a Netflix press release, Emily’s “new life in Paris is filled with intoxicating adventures and surprising challenges as she juggles winning over her work colleagues, making friends, and navigating new romances.” In ‘the city of lights,’ Emily’s character is excited, intelligent, and extremely fashionable. The real Emily, Lily, is no different. The Rules Don’t Apply actress also serves as a producer on the show alongside Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns of Jax Media, and Andrew Fleming.
Viewers can expect steamy romance scenes, as the trailer includes a sneak peek of Emily and a specific shirtless French hunk going at it. However, this series is more than just a ‘trashy romance novel’ come to life. The trailer also includes a debonair and tuxedo-clad man, who calls Emily “a bold woman, unafraid to take on the world.”
With fantastic costume design by Patricia Field– of The Devil Wears Prada– and the beautiful Parisian backdrop, the series will stun visually. And yes, Emily in Paris was filmed in Paris. Creator Darren Star and actress/producer Lily Collins won’t disappoint. With current travel limitations and stay at home orders, you can book your trip to France without ever leaving your sofa. Watch the Netflix series premiere on October 2nd, and you will be transported to ‘the city of lights.’ We can almost guarantee that the sweatpants and slippers you’ve been wearing for the last three days will start to feel more like Chanel and stilettos.
