Handmaid’s Tale, 2-Die-4

New Season, Same Reason We Watch: Scary AF

Basically this is a reminder: Do not miss the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Smartly released on a weekly basis—no binging unless you wait until the season is over—the newest installment in the dystopian thriller is must-see TV…all over again. Already a huge hit last summer when the series debuted on Hulu and blew everyone’s minds, this newest season is relentless, cruel, and horrifyingly good television.

By the second episode, we have already learned just how fucked up Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) truly is. No spoilers but seeing Offred (Elisabeth Moss) giving her the stinkiest stink eye ever, which is just about all she can do, is somewhat satisfying. More satisfying is seeing Offred reunited with her lover and baby daddy Nick (Max Minghella). Their hot, hungry sex life is just about the only glimmer of hope we get in this dark drama. We also learn just what a badass Emily (Alexis Bledel) is: when she meets a former Wife (huge guest star Marisa Tomei), in the Colonies for cheating on her husband, she makes sure she suffers, hopefully as much as her handmaid most likely did. Take that!

After sweeping the Emmys last fall, and garnering Moss a Golden Globe, we anticipate a similar outcome for The Handmaid’s Tale in 2018. Whatever the award season results, this contemporary horror story is one for the ages.

The Handmaid’s Tale is on Hulu, on Wednesdays.
