Hugh Laurie Leads The Space Tour
Veep creator Armando Iannucci is wasting no time. The political comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus ended in May, but Veep’s fans can now turn their attention to HBO’s Avenue 5.
The show is set in a future where space tourism exists and is relatively practical. (Elon Musk, take notes.) Hugh Laurie plays Captain Ryan Clark who navigates the spacecraft, Avenue 5. When it breaks down, they call Triple A and everyone returns home safely. Just kidding! The crew scrambles to solve the engineering problems before the on-board wacky personalities drive everyone insane.
Also on the spacecraft is the son of the Judd brand owner, Herman Judd. The Judds monopolize the space luxury industry. Josh Gad plays the gold sweatsuit-wearing daddy’s boy, adding another layer of comedy to the already funny series. Other comedic actors join the cast as well, including The Office’s Zach Woods and Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Suzy Nakamura. With this cast and one of the best comedy creators of this century, Avenue 5 is gearing up to be an out of this world series. It should remain in orbit for years to come — that is, if they can repair the spaceship.
