I’M NOT OKAY WITH THIS
Netflix’s Teen Angst, Superpower Series
Netflix is giving us an It reunion we didn’t know we needed. Sophia Lillis (young Beverly Marsh in the Mike Flanagan It adaptation) and Wyatt Oleff (young Stanley Uris) star in the angst-filled dramedy I Am No Okay With This.

The series follows Sydney (Lillis), who has had a rough year. Her father died, her life is in actual shambles — not the usual hyperbolic teenage drama — and she just found out she has superpowers. Yeah, it’s not a side effect of puberty. Her best friend, Dina (Sofia Bryant), is focused on her boyfriend, so she turns to the weirdo down the street, Stanley (Oleff), for comfort and reassurance. Imagine navigating school and superpowers. Sydney is pretty much a modern day Spider-Man, er, Spider-Woman.

The show has been deemed a comedy, but the dramatic elements really come out in the trailer. A series where cops are chasing a teenager has to have ample drama, right? That’s what we’re gathering, at least.

The series comes from none other than the creators of Stranger Things and End of the F****** World. The creative team behind those series have mastered the sci-fi meets coming-of-age narratives that prevail throughout all of its projects. With those hits under the team’s belt, I Am No Okay With This will surely find itself in that newly minted top 10 list on Netflix. Happy bingeing, PROVOKRers.
