Blumhouse has given us two seasons of Into the Dark, and we cannot wait for a third! This horror anthology is unique in that ‘episodes’ are released monthly and inspired by specific holidays. Another thing that makes this anthology special is that each episode is film-length and has its director. As we wait for season three on Hulu, rewatch PROVOKR’s Favorite Episodes from Into the Dark!

4. “Pooka Lives!”

The sequel to the episode titled, Pooka, Pooka Lives, takes an even darker turn with a murderous teddy bear. Directed by Nacho Vigalondo of Colossal, this episode is a standout because of the star-studded cast, including Felicia Day and Rachel Bloom. The episode stands as a commentary on viral memes and how easily the internet influences society. Of course, this theme is paired with creepy costumes, bloody scissors, and weird lullaby music, which makes for great Halloween inspired TV.

3. “School Spirit”

This episode of Into the Dark screams of Scream, and we love it! A group of ‘unruly’ students lands in Saturday detention after the first week of school. In a demented version of The Breakfast Club, the kids get high, the Principal is a psychopath, and oh yeah, there is a ghost who gets off killing the “bad kids.” Directed by Mike Gan, this ‘Back to School’ nightmare is a fun watch if you’re looking for a good slasher.

2. “New Year, New You”

In the number two spot, we give you New Year, New You. Directed by Sophia Takal, this high school reunion style sleepover seems sweet enough until you realize it’s a revenge plot. Frenemies, Alexis, Kayla, and Chloe invite Daniele to celebrate the New Year with them. Danielle, played by Charley Chaikin, is a self-help influencer, but the girls feel like she is the same old bully she was in high school. Among the champagne and facials, Alexis, played by Suki Waterhouse, leads the accusations. The episode comes complete with slasher quality blood smears and jump scares, and if you haven’t already seen it, we highly recommend you do.

1. “Culture Shock”

To fans of the anthology, it will come as no surprise that the Independence Day inspired Culture Shock receives the title of ‘Number One Episode’ so far. Directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, the episode explores immigration, freedom, and troubling social issues through horror. Not unlike the well-received, Get Out, Culture Shock points out severe societal problems in an incredibly creepy way. Martha Higareda crosses the border, as Marisol Ramirez, and walks into a twisted American ‘Dream.’
