Tom Clancy’s protagonist Jack Ryan is not the modern concept of a superhero. Those usually come caped, masked or in tight, spandex material that lend to the phrase “America’s Ass.” But for years, Clancy’s novels put forth a more realistic hero in Jack Ryan, which is probably why it has been adapted so many times. Amazon currently holds that ammunition, and the John Krasinski-led action series is back for season two.

This time, Jack Ryan is battling Russian intelligence and espionage in a tie-up with Venezuelan government. Of course, Jack is working for the CIA — more specifically with his pal James Greer (Wendell Pierce) — and traveling to the UK. So he’s all over the globe. Also joining the CIA operatives is Mike November, played by the wonderful Michael Kelly.

Kelly is not the only new cast member. Noomi Rapace is coming on as a potential love interest for Jack Ryan, but he’s skeptical because of all that espionage. Can’t be too careful, I guess. But we’re still putting money on the fact he’ll sleep with her.

“I want to team up with her so bad, and probably have feelings for her, but also am constantly aware this is espionage,” Krasinski told Entertainment Weekly about his new costar. “This isn’t a date at the mall. This can go south at any time.”

Krasinski brings that same rugged, tough-guy look to the role that has been held by Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin and, most notably, stunt master Harrison Ford. On top of acting in the series, Krasinski is an executive producer and calls some shots behind the scenes. He gives a commendable performance as the series lead, and it helps that he looks so good doing all of it.

Jack Ryan returns Nov. 1 on Amazon.
