STEAMY STREAMING: JOAQUIN PHOENIX
HER, Signs, Walk The Line, Gladiator + more!

In case you don’t know, Joaquin Phoenix is taking on the titular role of Joker in the now-released film of the same name. What might seem like an origin story for arguably the most well-known Batman villain is actually a think-piece on mental health. Joaquin is already receiving early buzz for a Best Actor nod at the Oscars, so it’s time to relive the performer’s greatest hits:
HER
We honestly can’t blame Joaquin Phoenix’s character Theodore for falling in love with Scarlett Johansson’s voice. It’s shocking Joaquin wasn’t nominated for his authentic, beautiful portrayal. With a Netflix subscription, you can water Her as many times as you want. As for us, we’ll be watching it everyday.
SIGNS
By the time Signs was released, M. Night Shyamalan had The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable under his belt, so he cast star Mel Gibson as the lead and Joaquin as his brother. The sci-fi drama is scarier than one could expect from an alien movie, so definitely watch it with friends in the daylight. The hit film is available on HBO.
YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE
Regarding the Oscars, film critics and fans anticipated a nomination for Joaquin for You Were Never Really Here. He sported an impressive beard to find missing girls. What’s more impressive is this crime drama was written and directed by a woman, showing that genre knows no gender. You Were never Really Here is available on Amazon.
WALK THE LINE
Johnny and June never looked so good. With Reese Witherspoon by his side, Oscar nominee Joaquin took on the role of the deep-voiced country legend known for “Folsom Prison Blues.” Like any good biopic, Walk The Line shows glimpses into Johnny’s life that you didn’t know existed. You can rent this flick on YouTube.
GLADIATOR
Gladiator is arguably what put Joaquin on the map. His role as Commodus was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He acts alongside Russel Crowe in one of the most epic movies of all time. Gladiator is available on Amazon.
THE MASTER
Anything directed by Paul Thomas Anderson is going to mess with your mind and turn you on all at the same time. The Master is a prime example of that. For his Oscar-nominated role, Joaquin takes on a sex-obsessed character who returns from World War II and suffers from alcoholism. It shows you the effects of war in interesting premise surrounding the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s clinic. The Master is available on Vudu.
