If you don’t already know the name Jonathan Majors, then it’s time to lift the rock you’ve been living under. In 2017, Majors was a student at Yale- yes, we said Yale- when he was cast for the television series, When We Rise. His performance as a young Ken Jones during the Stonewall riots of 1969 was brilliant, and it launched his career to new heights.

Sundance Star

Directed by Joe Talbot, The Last Black Man in San Francisco rocked the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. In the film, Majors plays the character Mont, who- alongside friend Jimmie- is trying to reclaim an old house in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. The story ultimately speaks to cultural displacement, the rhythmic nature of change, and friendship and family bonds. Earning a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this film is a must-watch.

Where to Watch the Latest Majors Magic

If you need a little Jonathan Majors in your life, you’re in luck. On August 16th, 2020, HBO premiered the first episode of Lovecraft Country, starring Majors and Jurnee Smollett. Jonathan plays Atticus Freeman, and he brings the pages of Matt Ruff’s novel, Lovecraft Country- published by HarperCollins- to life. The series is produced by Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele as well as Star Wars producer JJ Abrams. Episode seven, I Am, will be available on September 27th, and viewers can expect this intense sci-fi show to tackle the plight of ‘Jim Crow America’ in the 1950s.

What’s Next for Majors

On Monday, September 14th, Deadline reported that Majors would be joining Marvel Universe in the third Ant-Man movie. While Marvel has yet to announce a release date for the film, we know that Jonathan will play the classic villain, Kang the Conqueror, opposite Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. According to Marvel comics, Kang is a genius and has extraordinary historical knowledge. With Majors’ extensive repertoire of playing historical figures and people living during influential historical times, it wasn’t a  surprise to fans that he got this role.
