JUDE LAW IN THE THIRD DAY
The Movie Star In An HBO Horror

Jude Law is returning to HBO. The Young Pope star leads the three-part miniseries The Third Day on the premium cable channel. Also starring is James Bond actress Naomie Harris.
The series serves as a personification of grief. After Sam (Law) and Helen (Harris) go through tragedies, they end up on a small island off the UK. There, they process their grief, but its inhabitants are out to keep the status quo the way it is. The Third Day is told in two storylines: summer and winter. Law’s portion of the series is summer and Harris’ is winter. It’s a show about dichotomies.
The trailer — watch it above — is a display of ominous tension. Dark hues encapsulate the characters, likely mimicking their grief. Then, when they arrive on the island, there is a freeing feeling. The dark presence is still there, but it’s in the clouds as if a storm is brewing and they’re just oblivious to it.
Jude Law has a packed work schedule. In addition to The Third Day, he has three films in pre-production: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3, Sherlock Holmes 3 and a Peter Pan adaptation where he plays Captain Hook. Of course, Naomie Harris makes her appearance as Eve in an upcoming Bond film No Time To Die.
Some have drawn comparisons to modern and classic horror films, like Ari Aser’s Midsommar and Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Man. Both involve a remote location with crazy residents. If that’s the case, you’re in for a doozy of a show, PROVOKRs. Check it out when it hits HBO and HBO Max begins on September 14.
