Julia Garner is one of the most impressive actresses of this generation, right alongside Jodie Comer and Zoe Kravitz. At 27, the actress won back-to-back Emmys for her supporting role in Ozark. For those keeping track, she is two-for-two when it comes to TV’s most significant awards ceremony.

The Jason Bateman-led drama propelled Garner into the cultural Zeitgeist. She steals every scene she’s in. For Garner, it was the role she wanted to play most in her career.

“I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, this character is amazing,’” Garner told The Hollywood Reporter. “‘There’s so much to it. If I don’t get this, I don’t think I can watch this show.’ And I don’t think like that. I’m usually like, ‘One bus comes, one bus goes, try to get on the next bus.’ This time, I was like, ‘I’ve got to get on that bus.’”

In the last year, she has reached leading lady status, which is good considering Ozark ends after season four. The first was an indie film called The Assistant that went to Hulu during the COVID19 pandemic. Regarded as one of the best movies of 2020, Garner plays an executive assistant who finds herself in a case of sexual harassment. The power play dynamic shown in the film is a direct, robust response to the #MeToo movement.

Now, Garner is currently filming the upcoming Netflix true-crime series, Inventing Anna. If Ozark solidified Garner as an actress to watch, Inventing Anna would put her on the map as an actress to admire. In addition, there is some significant IP behind this series. Does the name “Shonda Rhimes” ring a bell? Yes, Inventing Anna is Rhimes’ second show for Netflix — and after the success of Bridgerton, we should expect the same from Inventing Anna

Garner portrays real-life con Anna Delvey, a woman who pretended to be an heiress, rose to social media fame and stole a whole lot of money along the way. It’s safe to say Garner will reveal her many layers in Inventing Anna, which is set to come out in 2021 (though Netflix keeps a tight lock on its release schedule).

Julia Garner continues to make big moves in her career, and all of them are paying off. As one of the most captivating actresses under 30, we can’t help but admire this talent. We invite you to do the same, PROVOKRs.
