Katherine Heigl is as controversial as she is attractive. Her run on Grey’s Anatomy left a sour taste in some people’s mouths, and since then, the dynamo actress has struggled to stay relevant. But, it seems, her list of projects is expanding, including an upcoming role in Netflix’s Firefly Lane

The series follows two BFFs, Kate (Samantha Chalke) and Tully (Heigl), across three decades. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah. Firefly Lane appears to take Heigl back to her rom-com roots, but she’s not leaving her fierce performances behind.

As you may remember, Heigl took a leading role in Suits following Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle’s departures. Though Doubt put her back on TV screens, Suits pushed her  into the limelight. Heigl has always been a powerful performer — even during her Grey’s Anatomy days — but she didn’t feel that way. “I do think back to my younger roles, things I did when I was 19 or 20, and realize that I didn’t know who I was yet, and I didn’t know how to be powerful,” Heigl told Harper’s Bazaar in 2018. “I have absolutely done things like scantily clad photos for Maxim magazine, I have used my body, I have used my physicality, and I have mixed feelings about that.”

Her slower schedule happened after she left Hollywood, moved back to Utah, and started a family. Now, two-years later, Heigl is calling the shots as a producer, starting with Firefly Lane. She is also set to portray women’s rights pioneer Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for President of the United States.

Say what you will about Heigl, but you have to admit, her power and talents far exceed the drama before her. We can’t wait to see her in new roles.
