Superheroes are portrayed with honor: putting themselves before the very society they inhabit. But what would ever happen if superheroes fed into the vices that we all fall under? Well, enter The Boys: the gem of Amazon Prime.

The show tells a tale about a well-known superhero group that works under Vought Industries. Donned with money and celebrity status, the adulation corrupts them. As to preserve their success, the heroes do unspeakable acts to save face. From drug abuse to sexual assault and innocent lives made to be casualties. And while they covered their tracks, they follow a group of individuals who seek vengeance on the organization that plagues society.

The show stars Karl Urban as Butcher; the Xena: Warrior Princess’ star is cast as the vengeful ex-SAS Operator who recruits a cast of misfits who plan to take down Vought and its poster child, Homelander. Homelander, played by Antony Starr, used his status to be with Butcher’s wife, which led to her disappearing entirely.

Alongside Butcher is Jack Quaid’s character Hughie, who begrudgingly enters into the fray after Robin, his girlfriend, was killed in a hit-n-run accident caused by a fellow hero, A-Train.

The show also follows Erin Moriarty’s role as Starlight; a recruit that quickly learns of the dark clouds surrounding Vought Industries, and her new love interest, Hughie; making for one of the more compelling narratives on the show.

The Amazon exclusive stems from a comic-book series under the same title. Initially published by DC Comics, the idea was publicized from October of 2006 through November of 2012, before being adopted as a show by Amazon, being released in July of 2019.
