LOCKED UP, A SEXY THRILLER
Spain's Most-Watched Series is a Killer

Spain is constantly cranking out sexy, compelling content. (Hello, Money Heist and Elite.) And thanks to streaming giant Netflix, we often get to enjoy high-quality content without needing to scour the internet for it. Well, if you haven’t watched Locked Up (aka Vis a vis), then get to binging, PROVOKRs, because it is a prison show unlike any other.
The series follows a group of female inmates in their day-to-day lives in prison. Before we get too far, yes, this is similar to Orange Is the New Black. But the series is more than just a string of hot hookups and sexual tension (though there is plenty of that). Imagine if Breaking Bad and OITNB merged into one supershow. That’s what you would get with Locked Up.
It all starts with Macarena Ferreiro, played by Maggie Civantos, who commits crimes for a boss she loves. Now, the naive woman must ignite her survival instincts to serve out her 7-year sentence.
Civantos’ character was the protagonist for the first two seasons, but then she got a role on the other Spanish hit Cable Girls, so she moved to a recurring character in seasons three and four. Locked Up was close to cancelation after season 3, but another channel picked it up for a final fourth season and spin-off, Locked Up: Oasis.
The cast and characters make Locked Up one of the best series streaming on Netflix, along with genius plots. And, there’s talk that seasons 6 and 7 could happen. We can hope. And while we’re at it, let’s make a U.S. version of this. We can picture Kiernan Shipka as the lead opposite Angelina Jolie, with Curly played by Zoe Saldana and Saray the proud gypsy played by Joey King. If that doesn’t sound like a hit, we don’t know what does. So, PROVOKRs now is your time to binge this fantastic series on Netflix.
